SEL Programs for Elementary Schools

Now more than ever, SEL programs for elementary schools are of dire importance. In a world of social distancing and virtual learning, students need connection. After so much time away from their peers and in different learning environments, many are lacking the social and emotional skills to excel. Studies have shown how much these skills bolster academic success and help classrooms thrive.

Soul Shoppe Helps Schools

Most educators recognize the importance of social emotional skills in schools.  For obvious reasons,  teachers and school staff have been especially overwhelmed the past couple of years.  Soul Shoppe can support your school community with emotional wellness so kids can learn more, and teachers can enjoy their jobs more.

For 20 years Soul Shoppe brought important social emotional programs to schools with our workshops and assemblies. Now, our social emotional learning curriculum K-6 is available through online learning and live streaming. Our curriculum speaks to the issues and challenges young people grapple with on a daily basis.

Listening Activities for Students

Our Courses

All of our courses are designed to give students a deep experience of empathy and connection. In alignment with the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning’s (CASEL) Social Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies and our specific emphasis on equity and belonging, our online courses help students acquire tools to be more emotionally resilient, empathetic, happy, and productive.

Tools of the Heart

Tools of the Heart was designed by our social emotional learning experts to help kids overcome isolation and strengthen their relationships. This course is offered in grade-appropriate levels that tracks with cognitive and emotional development. We use mindfulness and embodiment techniques, social engagement exercises, art, and restorative practices to teach kids how to recognize, manage, and express their feelings and needs in healthy ways. Students learn four essential communication and problem-solving skills that can be applied in their everyday lives. These skills serve kids for a lifetime.

Respect Differences

Diversity is exciting but it can also be confusing and lead to bullying and exclusion. Respect Differences is a course designed to teach K-6th grade kids how to appreciate all the things that make us unique. Children are guided through lessons that help them build up their self-esteem so they can show more empathy and tolerance toward people with different ideas, appearances, likes, and dislikes.

Allies Against Racism

Often we tell ourselves that we should spare children the discomfort of facing tough issues head-on – that we should wait until they’re older. But what most people don’t realize is that we are always communicating about race, whether we address it explicitly or not. With an increased focus on racial justice taking place in our country, kids may feel confused and worried about how to relate to their peers and people of color. How do we supply them with the tools they need to grow in healthy ways? We’ve developed a program that gives kids (and grown-ups) the self-awareness and social skills to navigate complex issues like racism with more confidence and consideration.

This 3-part course focuses on decreasing teasing, bullying, and hurtful behaviors and increasing safety, respect and FUN! The curriculum is designed to help kids better understand bullying and how they can take responsibility for a more peaceful school community. Available mid-October 2022.

Digital Courses with Facilitated Lessons

All of our on-demand digital courses can be paired with lessons taught by an expert Soul Shoppe facilitator. For the 22-23 school year, we offer lessons onsite or virtually. These lessons deepen learning and help students to feel more connected and empowered. The facilitator meets with each grade level and provide tools and techniques on real-time issues, conflicts, and will inspire incredible learning moments.

Peacemaker Trainer Certification

Create a peaceful school. Peacemaker Trainer Certification is a train-the-trainer certification program for schools to build a school-wide restorative model to work through problems. Up to two adults per school learn to run the student Peacemaker Program on their school campus. The student Peacemaker Program is a student leadership program that trains a team of select 3rd, 4th and 5th-grade Peacemakers to solve problems and provide allyship and communication support on the playground and in the classroom. Student Peacemakers take on leadership with training that blends social and emotional skills with restorative practices.

Meet kids where they are, foster empathy among youth, encourage leadership and care, and decrease fighting and arguing while increasing peace and fun. Monthly coaching calls help Peacemaker trainers at each school learn to problem-solve through challenges, discuss program logistics, and share wins and successes. Get certified.

Professional Development for Educators

Social-emotional skills are crucial for creating a school culture of inclusion, classroom safety, and academic excellence. Our professional development workshops are designed to provide educators with both in-depth skills and a support system.

When teachers are able to model emotional resiliency tools for their students, students have a positive experience that helps them to more quickly integrate the tools into their lives. When the entire community uses our tools in navigating their daily interactions, the school culture shifts.

Conflict happens, even with our close friends. What matters is listening, understanding, and moving through the discomfort with empathy and compassion.
